Nose: This is sweet and fruity, with orange marmelade, liqueur-soaked berries, dense honey sweetness, some darker fruits and raisins. The darker notes develop as time passes in the glass and end up towards overly ripe plums.
Mouth: Very sweet with the darker fruit elements dominating. Ripe bigarots and plums with honey and vanilla. There’s still a hint of raisins and a dusty note. It’s just perfectly spicy, astringent and dusty. The citrus fruits take a step back, but are still noticable.
Finish: It starts out quite spicy, and the sweetness quickly turns into a very pleasant vanilla oakiniess that lingers for a long time. There’s a hint of tropical fruits peeking through the oak with mangos and peaches. The astringency is not overwhelming and adds a nice feel to the whole experience.
This is one out of three expressions in the Glenmorangie ”extra matured” series. It’s aged 10 years in ex-bourbon casks and finished for 2 years in ruby port pipes. It’s now replaced by a 14 YO.
