Tasting notes
Nose:This is dark and fruity. At first there’s a thick and dark layer from the sherry casks. They come with raisins, leather and overripe plums. It’s quite powerful overall which gives it a mild menthol note floating on top. After some time in the glass notes of age appears. It’s a dusty old oakiness which mixes well with the sherry notes. There’s a sweet and fresh background with a mix of toffee and lemon notes. This is a great nose with a nice balance between age, previous cask content and the speyside character.
Mouth: It starts out quity spicy with a mix of dark fruits, baking spices and liqueuer-soaked berries. There’s a coffee bitterness in the back and the dusty old oak is mixed in as well. It has a nice squeeze of lemon as well which gives a nice relief from the otherwise heavy flavours. The sweetness is somewhat subdued at this point which gives it a very mature character.
Finish: The tranisiton increases the spicyness, but not in a sharp or pointy fashion. A big boost in fresh red berries is followed by the dusty oakiness and the dark notes. The baking spices, mainly cinnamon, is in there together with leather and ripe plums. It really doubles down on the age notes along down the line and it’s an antique furniture shop and old books following along the old oak. The dark notes lingers for a long and extremly pleasurable finish. This is great whisky overall with a lot of nice flavours.
